Sequoia Camping Trip 2005
We got to Sequoia around 9:30 in the morning, found a campsite, setup camp, and then left for Moro Rock. We got to Moro Rock and went up to take a few picture of the snow covered Great Western Divide. After Moro Rock we went to Crescent Meadow and hiked about 6 miles of the High Sierra Trail. We turned around at Mehrten Creek. The water was moving fast and was fairly high. We could have taken our boots off and walked across, but we were really tired, getting low on water, and it was getting a little late. On the way back we saw a bear cub and two different birds (one looked like a pheasant and I couldn't identify the other). After we got back, we went back up Moro Rock and took some pictures of the setting sun and the alpenglow on the Great Western Divide. Then went to camp, ate, and went to bed very sore. The next morning we packed up and left around 10:30. We had planned to hike down Redwood Canyon that day, but snow blocked the turn off so we couldn't drive down the dirt road to get to the trailhead. So we then we decided to hike up to Pear Lake out of Lodgepole. We went to Lodgepole and started hiking on the trail. We soon came to Tokopah Falls and saw why this was the end of the trail. It would be extremly difficult to get over the cliffs to get to Pear Lake. It might have been possible to climb over them, but it wouldn't be easy, especially with all the snow. We were still sore and tired from the day before, so we decided to head back and then go home.
