Hell for Sure Lake Trip
Trip Pictures
Trip Summary (Summer 2000):
(Pictures open in a new window)
I went on this trip with my Boy Scout troop. We started at Courtright
Reservoir, went over Hell for Sure Pass and then on to Florence Lake. My friend,
Kyle, his dad, and I went up a day early to get acclimated and then the rest
of the people came met us the day after. From what I remember, the first 2 days
weren't very interesting. Just a walk through the forest. It was still nice
though. But the third day was
when we started to gain some elevation and get some pretty good views .
We stopped for the day at Fleming Lake, which is a very beautiful lake and has some great views of LeConte Divide .
The following day we headed up to Hell for Sure Lake. We took a brief stop at Fleming Creek, which is in a beautiful meadow .
We then took a lunch break at Disappointment Lake, which I don't think was very disappointing (picture). Then we went up to Hell for Sure lake . We arrived and settled down for a little bit. A few of us went around the lake to some snow (picture).
We then fished some and found out that this was a great lake for fishing. The fish weren't very big, but we caught a lot. There was a beautiful sunset on Mt Hutton across the lake.
We camped there and the next morning we climbed the pass. It was pretty steep. But it was a short climb and we quickly got to the top. We had a great view of Hell for Sure lake, several other lakes and the valley . We stopped there for awhile then headed down. We camped somewhere in Goddard Canyon.
The day after that we went to Blaney Meadow and enjoyed the great hot spring there. We didn't camp there, instead we went on to Florence Lake. We stayed our last night at Florence Lake. We could have hiked around the trail that day, but the was for the next day. So then the following day we hiked around the lake, which wasn't as easy and short as I had expected. We got back and enjoyed a great meal.
